Quartz Inversion
The Moment of Change

Nominated in the second round of artists, Check back to see what Rachael has been doing during the lockdown...
Quartz Inversion is as follows:
"We are going through a period of extraordinary change.
Analogous, perhaps, to quartz inversion in ceramics: the shift that occurs during firing, at 573 degrees Centigrade, when quartz crystal changes its structure (from alpha to beta), with an accompanying change in volume—expanding as the kiln temperature rises, contracting again as it falls. If clay is cooled too fast as it passes through this temperature, it cracks.
What kinds of creative shifts are artists experiencing as a consequence of the current pandemic? Will we survive unscathed, making the same kind of work we’ve always made, or will we crack—yielding to unfamiliar (or forgotten) modes of practice?"

(Founders of Quarts Inversion)

Trace Remains
An Exhibition of
Sculptural and Lens Based work of Rachael Marne Jones and Ryan Parker
in conjunction with
Extraction: Art On the Edge

Along with photographer/Mixed Media artist Ryan Parker, Rachael recently had an exhibition in conjunction with the Extraction event of 2021 at the Richard F. Brush Gallery. They also are included in the EXTRACTION MEGAZINE Catalog and Exhibition Guide Book.
See link here:

Megazine part 2: Selected Exhibitions and Events
Excerpt written by Rachael Jones & Ryan  Parker

The Event is as follows:
"EXTRACTION: Art on the Edge of the Abyss is a multimedia, multi-venue, cross-border art intervention that will investigate extractive industry in all of its forms (from mining and drilling to the reckless exploitation of water, soil, trees, marine life, and other natural resources). The project will expose and interrogate extraction’s negative social and environmental consequences, from the damage done to people, especially indigenous and disenfranchised communities, to ravaged landscapes and poisoned water to climate change and its many troubling implications. "
